Features
Molino de Benicalte
The present Molino de Benicalte dates back to the 17th century but has its origins in the time on the Moorish occupation. It is the largest and best preserved of contempary olive mills in the area, and is undergoing careful restoration by the current owner, using, very largely, traditional methods and materials. However, the owner needs to sell, and has recently ( april 2011) reduced the price by 200,000 euros. The footprint of the building is 550 sq.m., and it is a two storey building. Part of the second storey is absent, but apart from that it is structurally sound and is currently used as a cultural centre and venue for group meetings, theatre and dance workshops etc. The owner has a licence for conversion to commercial use, and this could be six apartments, for example, or a 22 bedroom retreat hotel. The land is 2,600 sq.m. of good level land, walled ( the original wall of the old mill) with patio, lawn, and with a modern 85 sq.m. annexe with two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom ( the living quarters of the owners) and another similar part of the land, on the west side of the mill, currently used as parking for the events that take place in the mill. The location is between the rio Chico and the Rio Sucio, on a good track between these two rivers, and two minutes drive from Orgiva. Electricity and town water are connected. This is a landmark building for Orgiva, and the person who takes over ownership takes over part of its heritage. ipc(i.c.)
