Baza and the Altiplano
This region is includes the plain of Baza, the plain of Guadix and the Vega of Granada. The Altiplano rises to 1,100 metres with a central plain of green fertile valleys watered by the rivers Guadalquivir, Guadaletín, Castril and Guardal. The town of Baza is a Moorish market town with a central ancient plaza and a cave quarter, a bull ring and an interesting archaeological museum.more information about Baza and the Altiplano
Costa Tropical and the Lecrin Valley
The Moors travelling south from Granada fell in love with this area with its rich soil, rushing rivers and the mountains providing natural fortification to the valley; it was named El Valle de Lecrín (the Valley of Happiness). Granada City and the Vega
Not only a highlight of the province, Granada city is home of one of the most visited and precious monuments of Spain the Alhambra, a Moorish palace and its gardens. Also preserved are the old Moorish quarter of the Albaicín and the gypsy quarter of Sacromonte. The Granada Vega (fertile plains and meadows) is a protected agricultural area, it extends from the west side of the city and includes the entire Genil river basin.more information about Granada City and the Vega
Guadix and the Marquesado
Guadix stands on the banks of the Río Guadix in the middle of a fertile plain, surrounded by red rocks and is famous for its cave dwellings. The old town is still surrounded by the original walls and many of the ancient buildings have been restored.more information about Guadix and the Marquesado
Loja and Western Granada province

Sierra Nevada West and the Alpujarra
South from Granada, the mountains of the Sierra Nevada rise breathtakingly and are snow capped for most of the year offering alpine sports. The Alpujarras stretch down to the coastal ranges of the Sierra de Lujar, the Sierra de Contraviesa, and touching the Sierra de Gador to the East and finish on the Mediterranean coastline.more information about Sierra Nevada West and the Alpujarra
Map of Granada Province
Granada Province not only includes the provincial city of Granada but Andalucía´s highest mountains, the snow capped Mulhacén and Veleta peaks of the Sierra Nevada with the magnificent Las Alpujarras to their south. A series of wooded valleys sprinkled with whitewashed villages with ancient cobbled paths through lands of figs, mulberries, almond trees and olive groves.
To the west is the scenic back road to Malága and the Axarquía region and to the east amongst dusty hills lies Guadix, famous for its cave dwellings and on to Baza on the rolling sierras with fields of wheat, pastures and fruit orchards.
Granada lies on the fertile plain known as La Vega, which is traversed by the Río Genil. The province of Granada boasts that you can ski in the Sierra Nevada in the morning and swim on the coast in the afternoon.
